FAQ
How do I get you to convert my tapes?
Email me at bobvonscio@gmail.com
What quality can I expect?
Your digital files will match the quality on your tapes. Is there a blue and green line going across the screen when you play back your tapes? You’ll have that on your digital files. I can only capture and convert what exists on the tape. You can’t get 4k HDR from a 30 year old VHS tape.
How long does it take?
The default answer is “by next weekend.” This isn’t 1hr photo. I’ll do it as quickly as I can, but it’s mostly a passive process. You’ve had this tape of that birthday party from 1989 all this time; you can wait until next Saturday.
How much does it cost?
$20 per tape or $90 per block of 5. If you want burned DVDs of your videos, those are an extra $10 per DVD. If you want me to rip DVDs to digital video files, it’s still $20 per disc.
What forms of payment do you take?
Cash or check. Come on, man. We’re converting VHS tapes. I’m not setting up a Square account for this.
What do I get at the end of this transaction?
I’ll give you all your tapes back and flash drives containing the digital videos. If you wanted them burned to DVD, you’ll get those, too. If any of the tapes are unsalvageable, you won’t be charged and you will get them back. I keep flash drives in all sorts of capacities and my goal is to return your files in the smallest number of drives as possible.
Can you see the content of my tapes?
Yes. This is basically an analog-to-digital capture. I can see the video stream during the capture. I don’t care what’s on your tapes. I have a life to live and watching your homemade porn and grandma’s birthday parties ain’t part of it. I’m going to start the tape, make sure I’m capturing the output, and then mute my computer and go live my life.
Do you offer any other videography services?
No. I do this one thing and I totally expect to exhaust my supply of customers very quickly. They haven’t made VCRs in 6 years. For some reason, I think this is a fun side business to start. I’m here to rescue your old home videos and esoteric German director’s cuts of The Tale of Despereaux.
